DeVanté (DJ) Cunningham is a graduate student in Public Health on the Health Policy, Law, and Ethics track with aspirations of becoming a Clinical Psychologist. He graduated from U.Va in 2015 with a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology. While an undergraduate, he was an active member of the Living Wage Campaign and B.E.A.T.S, Black Expression Awareness and Thought Society. He is a past president and current graduate advisor of the Zeta Eta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. DJ was born in Petersburg, Virginia but raised in Würzburg, Germany. He moved back to the United States in 2010 to complete his senior year of high school. DJ has worked as a digital media consultant, high school basketball official, bookstore student supervisor and graduate student intern for Dr. Marcus Martin. His passions lie in helping African American youth reach their career goals and would like to improve his academic writing skills. When not mentoring you might find him on the basketball court, doing photography, working at the bookstore, or performing spoken word. This summer DJ plans to begin writing a book as well as work on multiple research projects. He is interning in the department as part of his field placement for his master's program.
